Meandering the Marais

Thursday morning July 3: This morning’s activity was touring the Marais District. The Marais was once a swamp, and is a neighborhood that has undergone many transformations: From home to royals and aristocracy in pre-revolutionary times to a dumpy bohemian quarter to home to trendy shops, galleries and restaurants. Many pre-revolutionary buildings and squares can still be found here. The students and President Greiner accompanied Carlos Ortiz on a tour of the area. Carlos, a professor of Computer Science and Mathematics, has been living in Paris with his family during his sabbatical this past year. Faculty and staff went on our own self-guided tour of the area. The groups met up on Rue des Rosiers for lunch—many of us had delicious falafel for the second lunch is a row!
